# How to preview an EchoMelon story before you start chatting

Before you begin an EchoMelon roleplay, open a story’s detail page and read **Bio** and **Current Story**. They help you understand the overall premise and the situation you are about to enter. You can make that choice before using the chat button.

## 1. Find a situation you want to explore

Open [EchoMelon Explore](https://echomelon.com/app/explore) and choose a story card that interests you. Read its title, short description and available tags before opening the details.

Think about the role you want today: investigate a mystery, build a relationship slowly, or join an adventure with an immediate problem to solve. A specific preference helps you judge the premise.

For a fictional example, imagine you want a quiet mystery in a seaside town. A missing letter gives you a useful question: who sent it, and why has it disappeared?

## 2. Read Bio for the bigger picture

Opening a story card takes you to its public details. **Bio** contains the creator’s broader description and available tags. The description may introduce the setting, characters, relationships or tone.

Look for three things:

* **Your role:** Who are you here, or what room is there to choose?
* **The relationship:** Are the characters strangers, allies, rivals or already close?
* **The tone:** Does this sound like the experience you want?

Creators provide different amounts of detail. If something important is unclear, keep that uncertainty in mind as you decide whether to continue.

## 3. Check Current Story for the starting point

Next, open **Current Story** and read the summary for the selected story.

Use it to answer: **what am I stepping into here?** The broader premise can describe a whole world; a particular story starts in a specific situation. Checking both helps you understand that starting point.

Try describing your intended first action in one sentence. For the fictional missing-letter example, that might be: “I ask the innkeeper who last handled the post.” You do not need to plan every turn. You need enough context to begin in a way that interests you.

## 4. Compare other stories when a list is available

On works with multiple available stories, the interface can show **Story List**. Its cards identify individual stories and provide a short preview. Opening one takes you to its details, where you can read its summary.

You may not see this tab on a work with only one available story. Bio and Current Story are enough to follow this guide. When you do move between entries, check the selected name and summary rather than assuming they all begin in the same situation.

## 5. Enter the chat when you are ready

The details page has a chat button at the bottom. The signed-in interface uses **Start Chatting**; the guest entry uses **Start Free Chatting**. Follow the option and any account or usage notices shown in your session.

The guest option is a limited trial, not an unlimited free plan. Check your session’s usage notices for your current allowance. Returning to a character may also reopen an existing conversation rather than create a fresh one.

When you enter, begin with your chosen action and leave room for the story to develop.
